Corn, an ancient and wild grass, thrives best when sown directly outdoors after the final spring frost, when the soil temperature approaches 65°F. Plant 2-3 seeds, 1-2 inches deep and 3-4 inches apart, in loose, organically rich, and well-drained soil. Once the true leaves establish, thin the plants to 1 every 12-18 inches. Regularly water the soil directly, avoiding overhead watering, which can damage the stalks. Harvest ripe ears by pulling them firmly downwards and off the stalk while twisting.

Zea mays - Open pollinated Golden Bantam Sweet Corn - grows well in warmer temperatures ranging from 75-90°F. Each ear is filled with plump, juicy, and bright yellow kernels that offer a sweet and delicious taste.

When selecting a site for your corn crop, keep the sun in mind. Corn stalks grow 6-8 feet tall and can either block the sun from or provide shade for neighboring plants. For the best results, harvest corn when the ears turn dark green, the silks go brown, and the kernels plump with milk-like juice.

The Old Farmer's Almanac offers premium packaging for its seeds. Each packet is individually styled, making them ideal for gifts, storage, or immediate use. The front of each packet displays the flower, vegetable, plant, or herb variety, while the back provides instructions and plant facts.

Each 20-gram packet contains approximately 200 premium, open-pollinated, non-GMO, and heirloom vegetable seeds. These seeds are freshly packed for the current growing season and will provide high germination rates for the next year as well.
